In her forthcoming memoir, View From the East Wing, former first lady Jill Biden offers a candid look behind the scenes of the 2024 presidential debate, confirming that Joe Biden was acutely aware of his rocky performance.
A candid admission
According to the memoir, as reported by The Atlantic, the former president turned to his wife following the event and whispered, “I really f---ed up, didn’t I?” Jill Biden recounts that she did not hesitate, responding simply: “Yes, you did.”
Fears of a medical crisis
The revelation follows earlier reports from an upcoming interview with “CBS Sunday Morning”, where the former first lady disclosed that she genuinely worried Joe Biden was suffering through a terrifying medical episode while on stage in Atlanta.
Jill Biden noted that the behavior displayed by her husband, who was 81 at the time, was entirely out of character. She emphasized that she had never witnessed him struggle to maintain his train of thought or fumble for words in such a way before or after that night.
“I was frightened, because I had never ever seen Joe like that before or since. Never,” she said in a snippet of the interview released on Wednesday, May 27. “I don’t know what happened.”
