John Cohen sends a message to Auburn’s baseball team ahead of postseason play

Auburn baseball is officially back in the hunt. As the No. 4 national seed, the Tigers are set to open postseason action this Friday at noon at Plainsman Park.

The Road to Omaha Begins

The Auburn regional features a competitive field, with the Tigers set to face Milwaukee in their opening matchup. The regional also includes Central Florida and North Carolina State, all vying for the chance to move on.

Speaking with 205focus.com during the SEC spring meetings, Auburn athletics director John Cohen noted that hosting a regional for the fourth time in five years is a testament to the program's consistency.

Confidence in Butch Thompson

Cohen expressed high confidence in head coach Butch Thompson, noting that the team is peaking at the right time. "I think Coach Thompson has them in a great place," Cohen said. "I think they’re really balanced. I think they have one of the elite pitching staffs in the country. They’ve defended well, and anything can happen in a regional. But we’re excited about hosting and we hope can survive the weather."

Postseason Path

The stakes remain high throughout the bracket. If the Tigers successfully navigate the regional round, they are slated to host again during the Super Regional round.

Furthermore, the Auburn regional is paired with the Lincoln regional, which is hosted by the No. 13 seed Nebraska. That pod includes Ole Miss, Arizona State, and South Dakota State, setting the stage for a potential high-profile showdown on the road to the College World Series.
