Things are looking better for CBS and anchor Tony Dokoupil.
After weeks of struggle in the nightly news market, “CBS Evening News with Tony Dokoupil” finished the week of April 27 with an increase in total viewers and the key adult 25-54 demographic, TV Insider reported.
“CBS Evening News” averaged 3.862 million total viewers and 541,000 demo viewers, increases of 2% and 16%, respectively. The program also posted year-over-year-gains of 6% overall and 12% in the adult demographic. The numbers are some of the strongest posted by Dokoupil since he took over as anchor from John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois on Jan. 5.
While an improvement, CBS remains behind both first-place finisher “ABC World News Tonight” and “NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas” which landed in second place.
“ABC World News Tonight,” averaged 8.3 million total viewers and 1.04 million demo viewers. Both figures were declines from the week before, however, dropping 3% in total viewers and 5% in the key demographic. Compared to last year, “World News Tonight” was up 18% in total viewers and 3% among the adult demographic.
“NBC Nightly News” averaged 6.231 million total viewers and 928,000 demo viewers, an increase of 1% in total and 12%, respectively, among adults. The program also showed healthy increases of 6% and 7%, respectively, over last year.
