It is officially happening: Irondale has locked in a major deal to bring a Costco wholesale warehouse to the city. Mayor James D. Stewart Jr. broke the news in a video message on Facebook, confirming that contract negotiations wrapped up just hours before his announcement.
A Major Economic Win
This monumental $105 million project is slated for the corner of Grants Mill Road and Interstate 459. The development will feature a massive 152,000-square-foot warehouse and an accompanying gas station. City officials have lauded the deal as the most significant economic development for Irondale since the arrival of the local luxury automall.
Timeline and Local Impact
The deal comes nearly a year after the project was first revealed in July 2025. Mayor Stewart noted that the extensive timeline was necessary to complete the complex due diligence, infrastructure planning, and property acquisition required for a project of this scale. Construction is expected to break ground as early as next week.
Once operational, the site is projected to create 200 to 300 jobs and contribute an estimated $6 million to $8 million in annual sales tax revenue. Mayor Stewart highlighted the positive impact this will have on local families, describing it as a major regional boost for the community.
