Man dead, 6 injured in west Birmingham shooting

A tragic Thursday night shooting in west Birmingham has left one man dead and six others wounded. Authorities were alerted to the violence at approximately 8:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire erupting during a gathering at a residence in the 150 block of Holley Avenue.

Investigation Underway

Birmingham Police Officer De’Rell Freeman confirmed that roughly 30 shots were fired during the incident. While all victims are adults, police have confirmed that at least one individual remains in critical condition. Surviving victims were transported to UAB Hospital and Princeton Hospital for emergency care.

As of late Thursday, no suspects have been taken into custody. Law enforcement has established a wide perimeter around the scene, with the Star 1 helicopter assisting overhead. Witnesses are currently being transported to police headquarters to aid in the ongoing investigation. "We will not sleep until we find out who did this," Freeman stated. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

Recent Context

This incident follows a shooting just one week ago where three people, including a 15-year-old boy and a woman, were injured by gunfire in the 3200 block of Aspen Avenue Southwest. Five teenagers are currently facing charges related to that case.

The recent spike in violent activity occurs against a backdrop of statistically significant declines in local crime. Birmingham police reported earlier this week that there have been 17 homicides throughout 2026—a 50% reduction from the same period in 2025 and a 73% decrease compared to 2024.
