Arson destroys two donation inventory trailers at Alabama thrift store
No injuries were reported.
The Lovelady Thrift Store in Clay is reeling after a pair of donation trailers were intentionally torched early Wednesday morning. According to a statement posted to their Facebook page, investigators identified a young male as the individual responsible for setting the fire.
Operations Continue Despite Loss
While the trailers and their entire contents were destroyed in the blaze, the physical store locations remained untouched. Both the shop at 2402 Old Springville Road and the location at 7720 Ludington Lane in Irondale were spared from the flames and are continuing to operate at full capacity. Officials confirmed that no injuries occurred during the incident.
Call for Community Support
As an organization dedicated to providing essential programming for women and children, The Lovelady Center relies heavily on these thrift operations. Following the loss, the center is asking the community to help replenish their inventory through donations. The team is currently accepting drop-offs and scheduling pickups at both facilities. Those looking to assist with a donation pickup are encouraged to call 205-951-9230.
In the wake of the destruction, the organization expressed deep appreciation for the support they have already received. “Even in unfortunate moments like this, we are reminded how blessed we are to have such an amazing community standing beside us,” the center wrote in its update to 205focus.com readers and supporters. “Thank you for your continued support, prayers, and generosity. We are safe. We are open. And we are grateful.”
