Missouri head coach gives update on star running back at SEC spring meetings

Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz shared a positive update regarding the recovery of star running back Ahmad Hardy during the SEC spring meetings. This marks the first time the coach has publicly addressed Hardy’s progress since the player returned to Columbia following a gunshot injury sustained in early May. Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz gave the media an update on Hardy’s progress as he continues his path to recovery.

Ongoing Recovery

Hardy is currently back in Columbia and maintaining a strict rehabilitation schedule. Drinkwitz confirmed that the standout running back is diligently working at the team's facility each morning. “Doing really good, back in Columbia,” Drinkwitz said. “Has been rehabbing in our facility every morning at 9 a.m. We’re a long way away from knowing what the football side of it will be, but from a overall health, just fine. There’s not a lot of return to play protocols with this particular injury, so we’ll have to carry that out as we get back.”

Context of the Incident

Hardy was shot in the leg on May 11 while attending a concert in his native Oma, Mississippi. As the Tigers look ahead to the 2026 season and the upcoming SEC Media Days, fans and coaching staff alike will be monitoring his status for further updates.

A Stellar Resume

Hardy’s importance to the Missouri offense cannot be overstated. Following a stellar 2025 campaign, he finished as the SEC’s leading rusher, racking up 1,649 yards and 16 touchdowns. His incredible performance earned him spots on both the All-SEC and All-American first teams.
