Alabama rain delay updates: Tide is 6 outs away from Omaha, but weather got in the way
Alabama's baseball game against St. John’s was suspended in the eighth inning due to a rain delay in the Tuscaloosa Super Regional. Then it was postponed to Monday.
The Crimson Tide is standing on the doorstep of history, sitting just six outs away from securing a trip to Omaha for the first time since 1999. However, Mother Nature had other plans for Sunday evening at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Weather Halts Tuscaloosa Super Regional
Alabama holds a commanding 7-2 lead over St. John’s in the Tuscaloosa Super Regional, but the game was suspended in the top of the eighth inning due to persistent lightning and rain. While the Tide needs just those final six outs to punch their ticket to the Men’s College World Series, St. John’s is fighting to extend the best-of-three series to an if-necessary game on Monday.
The game was initially suspended at 5:35 p.m. CT on Sunday. What followed was a frustrating cycle of weather delays, with the 30-minute lightning clock resetting repeatedly throughout the night at 7:43 p.m., 8:07 p.m., 8:41 p.m., and 9:48 p.m. following a fresh deluge.
Monday Morning Resumption
Despite attempts to restart play—including a targeted 10 p.m. CT return time—the field conditions became unplayable following a final wave of heavy rain. After an outfield meeting between officials, the decision was finalized to postpone the contest.
According to the official updates provided by UA, the game will now resume on Monday at 11 a.m. CT. 205focus.com will continue to monitor the situation as the Crimson Tide looks to close out the series.
