MLB team facing backlash from league for actions on Pride Night
Several Giants players wore bible verses or declined Pride caps during Pride Night, prompting MLB to warn them for violating uniform rules.

As June brings Pride Month to the forefront of professional sports, teams across the country are hosting dedicated events to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. However, a recent promotional event held by the San Francisco Giants during their series against the Chicago Cubs sparked significant internal pushback—and drew a sharp response from league officials.
League Rules and Player Actions
The controversy emerged as several Giants players opted against wearing Pride-themed caps, while others modified their gear to display personal messages. Major League Baseball took notice of the non-compliance, leading to warnings for those involved.
San Francisco starting pitcher Landen Roupp took the mound for 4⅔ innings with the bible verse "Gen 9:12-16" displayed on the front of his cap. In the aftermath of the team’s 5-1 loss, Roupp addressed the media, stating, "There’s no hate at all. It’s just what I stand for, and what I stand on: I believe in God."
Internal Reactions
Roupp was not alone in his decision. JT Brubaker and Ryan Walker also featured bible verses on their caps. Additionally, reliever Sam Hentges bypassed the specialty Pride cap entirely, opting for the standard black and orange team headwear.
Hentges explained his choice following the game: "It’s just something that I feel like I was forced to support when I don’t morally support it. There wasn’t hatred behind it. I think that’s kind of something that’s misinterpreted. I don’t hate the LGBTQ community. It’s just something I believed and talked with teammates and family, and they supported it."
MLB Issues Warning
The league has made it clear that personal modifications to uniforms will not be tolerated. MLB official Pat Courtney addressed the incident, stating, "The writing on the cap violates our rules.
