Neighborhood lounge and grill planned in spot that housed popular Avondale bars
Previous tenants included Marble Ring, as well as Ferus on 41st, which closed earlier this year.
A fresh addition is heading to the Birmingham dining and nightlife scene. A new bar and restaurant concept is officially being planned for the Avondale neighborhood.
A New Look for 41st Street
The establishment, named Retro, has officially secured its retail liquor license from the Birmingham City Council as of Tuesday. Located at 430 41st St. S., Unit A, the venue aims to breathe new life into a prominent spot in the area.
Owner Rex Cole presented his vision for the space during a May 12 Birmingham City Council public safety committee meeting, describing the project as a "neighborhood lounge and grill." Cole emphasized an inclusive atmosphere, noting, "Everyone is welcome."
Focus on Safety and Security
As part of his proposal to the city committee, Cole confirmed that the lounge will prioritize guest safety by implementing cameras and security measures throughout the night.
A Storied Location
The address is well-known to locals, having previously served as the home to Marble Ring. More recently, it housed Ferus on 41st, which shuttered its doors earlier this year.
While excitement is building for the opening, fans will have to wait a little longer. Cole shared on social media that he is not ready to announce an official opening date just yet, noting that there are still "a few more hurdles to clear" before 205focus.com readers can walk through the doors.
