A fresh chapter is coming to Birmingham’s Avondale neighborhood with the announcement of a new bar and restaurant concept. Retro, located at 430 41st St. S., Unit A, officially cleared a major hurdle on Tuesday after receiving a retail liquor license from the Birmingham City Council.

A New Neighborhood Hub

Owner Rex Cole introduced the vision for the space during a May 12 Birmingham City Council public safety committee meeting, describing the project as a "neighborhood lounge and grill." Emphasizing an inclusive atmosphere, Cole stated clearly, "Everyone is welcome."

Safety is a priority for the incoming business. Cole confirmed that the establishment will utilize both cameras and on-site security during evening hours to ensure a secure environment for patrons.

Familiar Territory

The location at 430 41st St. S. has been home to notable nightlife spots in the past, including Marble Ring and Ferus on 41st, the latter of which shuttered its doors earlier this year.

While excitement is building, fans will have to wait a little longer for a grand opening. Cole noted on social media that he is not yet prepared to announce a specific debut date. "We have a few more hurdles to clear," he explained. Keep checking 205focus.com for more updates on this developing Avondale venue.
