Never mind the Margaritaville hype, Last Mango’s menu is no gimmick
The new Jimmy Buffett-themed "Bar & Chill" recently opened in Orange Beach.
The Orange Beach dining scene just got a major infusion of island spirit. Jimmy Buffett’s Last Mango Bar & Chill has officially arrived at The Wharf, serving as a flavorful, high-energy teaser for the much larger Margaritaville project set to debut soon.
More Than Just a Theme
Don’t let the brand name fool you into expecting a stereotypical tourist trap. While you will find photos and memorabilia of the late Gulf-and-Western icon, along with the standard gift shop, the food here isn't just an afterthought. This restaurant stands on its own merits, prioritizing fresh ingredients, bold presentation, and a relaxed atmosphere that avoids the sensory overload of constant song references.
A Focused, Flavorful Menu
The menu is refreshingly concise, balancing a one-page food selection with a solid list of signature "boat drinks." With eight appetizers and 18 entrees, the kitchen leans into versatility, moving comfortably from approachable pub-style snacks like Chicken Tenders ($16) and Tater Tot Nachos ($16) to more refined culinary offerings.
A standout start was the Ahi Tuna Nachos. These were as visually striking as they were tasty, utilizing a crisp wonton base piled high with fresh tuna, avocado, jalapenos, and cilantro. The combination of a creamy togarashi sauce and a bright ponzu glaze added a sophisticated, citrusy kick to the dish.
From Gulf-Caught Snapper to Firecracker Burgers
The entree list hits some unexpected high notes. The Gulf-caught Red Snapper ($28) is a must-try; served skin-on, blackened, and paired with fried green tomatoes and a zesty mango slaw, it offers an authentic taste of the coast. For those craving something bolder, the Short Rib Pasta ($30) or the 10-ounce Churrasco Steak ($30) provide a hearty, savory experience.
Of course, you can't visit a spot honoring the king of the cheeseburger without ordering a burger. The Alabama Firecracker Burger ($20) delivers a savory, high-quality beef blend topped with smoked bacon, jalapeno cream cheese, and a sweet-and-spicy hot honey finish, all tucked inside an unpretentious brioche-style bun.
The Atmosphere
Whether you choose to dine in the airy, sun-drenched interior or head outside, the setting is ideal for groups of all ages. The expansive outdoor bar, tucked under the giant archway connecting The Wharf’s shopping center and marina, offers prime views of local vessels and the construction progress of the neighboring Margaritaville complex.
It is the perfect backdrop for a Stranded on a Sandbar cocktail ($12.50) or a Watermelon Lemonade ($12). If you’re feeling extra festive, you can upgrade to a 22-ounce souvenir blender cup for an additional $12.
Last Mango Bar & Chill is located on Marlin Circle at The Wharf in Orange Beach.
