Paul McCartney reveals late iconic artist recorded cover of Beatles classic: ‘He’s a wizard’
“He plays some really good guitar on it,” McCartney said.
The legendary Paul McCartney dropped a massive surprise this past Sunday, revealing that a lost collaboration of sorts exists between him and the late, great Prince. The 83-year-old rock icon shared on BBC Radio’s Tracks of My Years show that Prince once recorded a cover of the iconic Beatles track, "The Long and Winding Road."
A Hidden Treasure
According to PEOPLE, the rendition was tracked by Prince—who passed away in 2016 at age 57—during a rehearsal. The recording was never released, partly because of its unique, "kind of rocky" arrangement. However, McCartney remains impressed by the musician's approach.
"He plays some really good guitar on it," McCartney noted. Describing the "Purple Rain" star's immense talent, he added, "He’s a wizard."
Coming Soon?
McCartney is optimistic about the future of this rare recording. He indicated plans to reach out to Prince’s estate, believing the track has the potential to become something truly special if revisited. Beyond this collaboration, McCartney also tipped his cap to Prince's own catalog, naming the 1986 hit "Kiss" as his personal favorite from the artist.
