A repossession agent was followed and shot at while on the job in Birmingham on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in non-serious injuries.
South Precinct officers responded to a Shot Spotter alert at 50th Street and Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North shortly before 1:30 p.m. They found at least 21 shell casings and possibly a few rifle rounds in the parking lot of a Shell gas station.
Minutes later, West Precinct officers were called to Birmingham Fire Station 16 on Avenue I in Ensley, where they found the wounded repo man, who was then taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, the victim had just repossessed a vehicle from the 4600 block of 12th Avenue North, near the Shell gas station. As he drove away in the repossessed vehicle, he was followed, cornered, and shot at.
An undisclosed number of individuals have been detained for questioning. One man was seen in handcuffs near the original location of the repossession, but his involvement is still unclear.
