Elderly Woman Dies After Being Rescued from Burning Birmingham Home

An elderly woman has died following a fire at a home in west Birmingham.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 87-year-old Helen Moore McCarroll.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service noticed smoke shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Thursday and discovered a residence fully engulfed in flames in the 600 block of Fulton Avenue S.W.

When firefighters arrived, they found that bystanders had already pulled McCarroll from the house. She was taken to UAB Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m. on Friday.
