‘The Voice’ winner Alexia Jayy honored in Mobile
Jayy sang the anthem during the city's monthly artwalk.
The streets of Mobile were buzzing on Friday night as a massive crowd gathered in Cathedral Square to celebrate a hometown superstar. Alexia Jayy, the triumphant winner of the most recent season of “The Voice,” took center stage during the city's monthly artwalk to deliver a powerful rendition of the National Anthem and accept a special honor from the city's leadership.
A Hero's Welcome
Following her performance, Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis took the stage to express the city's pride in the Irvington native. “We’re so proud. We’re so proud of you,” Cheriogotis told the crowd. “We are just so thankful that you’ve been able to share your voice with the world, with a national audience. You’ve been able to share some of that soul of Mobile with the national audience.”
Keys to the City
The celebration reached a lighthearted peak when the Mayor presented Jayy with the key to the city. Cheriogotis couldn't help but joke about the unconventional accessory, telling Jayy, “I don’t know what it unlocks, but maybe you can find out and tell me. Certainly, if you find yourself in a spot of trouble or get a parking ticket, show them that.”
Honoring an Inspiration
The city's formal proclamation praised Jayy not just for her vocal talents, but for her character. The document highlighted her journey as a representative of the Gulf Coast, noting her humility, determination, and commitment to inspiring others to chase their dreams.
The official proclamation concluded by stating: “Whereas her accomplishments serve as a shining example to young people throughout our community that hard work, faith and perseverance can open doors to extraordinary opportunities. Now, therefore, I, Spiro Cheriogotis, 109th mayor of the city of Mobile, do hereby recognize and honor Alexia Jayy for her outstanding achievement in music for representation of the city of Mobile and the state of Alabama on the national stage and her continued impact as an artist and inspiration to others.”
While Jayy did not offer remarks during the artwalk appearance, her presence alone served as a testament to her rising career and her deep connection to the 205 community.
