Texas-style barbecue restaurant now open in Birmingham metro location
The business took "Food Truck of the Year” for two consecutive years from the Hueytown Chamber of Commerce.
The Birmingham metro area just got a major boost for barbecue lovers. A standout Texas-style food truck has officially made the transition to a permanent brick-and-mortar storefront in McCalla.
From Food Truck Fame to Brick-and-Mortar
Owner Johnny LaFoy officially launched Austin Whereabouts this month, located at 6530 Pocahontas Road. The business arrives with plenty of local fanfare, having previously operated out of Hueytown where it secured the Hueytown Chamber of Commerce's "Food Truck of the Year" award for two consecutive years.
The transition to a permanent space has been a welcome milestone for the team. "Seeing a full restaurant and so many people excited about Central Texas BBQ in Birmingham means the world to us," the restaurant noted in a recent social media post.
What's on the Menu
Fans of authentic Central Texas BBQ can expect a robust menu featuring staples like brisket, pulled pork, turkey, chicken, sausage, and both beef and spare ribs. Those looking for a true sampler can try the Texas Trinity, a plate featuring brisket, spare ribs, and sausage.
The restaurant also serves up unique appetizers, highlighted by the "Texas Twinkie"—a smoked jalapeño stuffed with a blend of cream cheese and brisket, wrapped in bacon, and finished with a signature house glaze. If you have room for something sweet, the menu offers banana pudding as its dedicated dessert option.
