There’s a major change coming to Target and you’ll notice it immediately

Target shoppers are about to experience a major upgrade the moment they walk through the doors. The retail giant is officially rolling out a significant change to one of the most familiar items in the store: their iconic red shopping carts.

A New Design for Shoppers

According to FastCompany, Target plans to replace its fleet of half a million carts over the next few years. These new, larger versions are built to hold more items while maintaining a design that is easier to navigate. Notably, this rollout marks the company's first nationwide launch of an all-plastic cart design, which even includes a dedicated large cupholder.

Sarah Deuth, Target's vice president of store design, noted that carts serve as "one of the most-used touchpoints in our stores and an everyday essential that continues to evolve alongside guest needs."

Built for Function and Sustainability

The transition focuses on three key areas: functionality, durability, and environmental impact. The new Series 3 APCs feature enhanced maneuverability, ergonomic handles, deeper child seats for added comfort, and extra space specifically for bulk goods.

"These features aren’t just functional. They reflect Target’s focus on creating experiences that feel easy, inspiring and friendly and designed for everyday life," Deuth wrote in a company blog post. "The result is a cart shaped by years of guest feedback and testing."

Sustainability is also at the forefront of this change. The carts are constructed from fully recyclable materials, and individual components are designed to be swapped out as needed to ensure a longer product lifespan.

While some locations already have the new carts in rotation, 205focus.com readers can expect to see them appearing in more stores across the country in the coming months and years.
