This story is part of our Bama on a Budget series, designed to help you discover great eats and local fun across Alabama without breaking the bank this summer.

It turns out that smoking meat is a versatile skill, and the Madison, Alabama outpost of the Huntsville-founded Ted’s Bar-B-Que has successfully translated that expertise into an impressive breakfast lineup.

Located at 8780 Madison Blvd., Ted’s sits across from a Red Roof Plus motel in a bustling retail area that includes everything from Thai food and dry cleaning to jewelry and secondhand shops. A quick 17-minute trip from Huntsville’s Five Points neighborhood provided an easy morning commute.

A Morning BBQ Experience

Stepping inside, you are greeted by a clean, well-maintained space with a nice patio and a relaxed vibe soundtracked by blues music. If you are looking to beat the rush, the breakfast service runs on weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The standout on the menu is undoubtedly The Big “4 Way.” This hearty biscuit sandwich packs bacon, pulled pork, egg, and cheese onto a cheddar-infused biscuit. The smoky, succulent pork is the undisputed star here, creating a breakfast that is as filling as it is flavorful.

Pairing your order with the combo is a smart move, as it includes a drink and “Cheezy Browns”—potatoes that capture that classic Waffle House-style flavor profile. While the chicken biscuit fillet didn't quite hit the mark, the smoked Polish sausage biscuit is an absolute must-try, offering a substantial, fresh slice on a flaky cheddar biscuit.

More Than Just BBQ

For those who prefer a wrap, the smoked pork, cheese, and egg breakfast burrito feels like a gourmet take on pigs-in-a-blanket. If you find yourself there on a Saturday, you can even catch their exclusive flapjacks.

The menu also features various biscuit combinations, gravy options, and “Super Bowls” loaded with protein, eggs, browns, peppers, and gravy. Most platters and biscuit combos are priced at $8 or less. You can view the full menu at tedsbar-b-q.com.

Ted’s was launched in 2013 by David Martin, whose local culinary portfolio also includes Rosie’s Cantina, Steak-Out, and Walton’s Southern Table. Named after Martin’s father, Teddy—who was a Muscle Shoals barbecue legend—the restaurant remains a local staple.

While the Madison location only began offering breakfast last year, it remains a hidden gem that is well worth checking out for your next morning meal.
