Troy baseball camera gear worth $35k stolen before historic Omaha win
Troy discovered the missing gear Sunday before winning its first game in Omaha.
Troy’s incredible run in the Men’s College World Series hit a major obstacle before the team even took the field for their big win.
Equipment Stolen Before Historic Victory
On the same day the Trojans secured a gritty 12-8 win over Mississippi, the athletics department revealed that $35,000 worth of camera equipment had been stolen from the team bus. According to an incident report obtained by 205focus.com, the gear was taken while the bus was parked at the team’s downtown Omaha hotel.
The theft was discovered Sunday morning when the team prepared to head to Charles Schwab Field. Two cases containing the vital recording equipment were missing, leaving the staff without their primary gear just hours before a historic matchup.
Community Support Saves the Day
In a true show of sportsmanship, Troy officials credited local organizations for stepping in to ensure the milestone game was still documented. The school thanked the NCAA, CWS Omaha, Creighton Athletics, and Omaha Athletics for loaning equipment and providing content access.
"We can’t thank the NCAA, CWS Omaha, Creighton Athletics and Omaha Athletics enough for their selfless efforts in loaning us gear and granting us access to their content to help capture what was a historic day for Troy Baseball and Troy Athletics," the school stated to 205focus.com. "The City of Omaha has been nothing but gracious hosts this week, and we are thankful for the outpouring of support throughout our College World Series journey."
Looking Ahead
Troy is set to continue its momentum on Tuesday at 1 p.m. CT. The Trojans face an elimination game against West Virginia, the same team that handed Troy a 7-5 loss in the opening round last Friday.
