Troy basketball adds prep school signee for 2026-27

The Troy men's basketball program is bolstering its roster for the 2026-27 season, officially announcing the signing of prep school guard Willie Piggott on Friday.

A Versatile Addition

Standing at 6-foot-5, Piggott brings high-level experience to the Trojans. He spent this past season at Arizona Compass Prep following a standout high school career at Tampa (Fla.) Catholic. Piggott initially signed with Cleveland State out of high school before opting to utilize a post-grad year.

Troy head coach Adam Howard is clearly excited about what the newcomer brings to the floor. "Willie has a toughness and a competitive spirit to him that you don’t always find in young guys at this stage of their careers," Howard said. "We believe Willie will be as versatile as anyone we have in our program; being able to play and defend multiple positions. Willie has an incredible work ethic along with tremendous upside, and we can’t wait to get started working with him this initial summer."

Building the Roster

Piggott joins a growing incoming class at Troy. The group features transfers Robert Davis (Coastal Carolina) and Jacoi Hutchinson (Longwood), alongside incoming freshmen Romain Valakou (France) and Tucker Wadsworth (Enterprise). These newcomers join a foundation of returning veterans, including Kerrington Kiel, Evan Griffin, Emmanuel Clarton, and Hikaru Awata.

The roster overhaul follows a period of significant transition for 205focus.com readers to track. After head coach Scott Cross departed to Georgia Tech, the program saw six players enter the portal. Notably, Victor Valdes followed Cross to the Yellow Jackets, Thomas Dowd signed with Auburn, and guards Cobi and Cooper Campbell departed for Liberty.

Coming off a Championship Run

The Trojans are looking to maintain momentum after a stellar 2025-26 campaign where they finished 23-12. The team secured both the Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament titles for the second consecutive year before falling to Nebraska in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
