2 global defense firms getting $36 million for submarine, B-2 Spirit stealth bomber work
Both companies are expected to complete their work by 2029.
The Pentagon recently announced a major investment in national defense, awarding two global firms contracts totaling $36 million. According to notices tracked by 205focus.com, these agreements target critical upgrades and maintenance for both undersea and aerial platforms.
L3Harris Technologies Lands Submarine Systems Deal
L3Harris Technologies has secured a $20 million contract focused on submarine capabilities. The firm is tasked with producing essential systems and components for both active submarines and those currently in the construction phase. This project, which spans facilities in Bologna, Italy; Northampton, Massachusetts; and Millersville, Maryland, is slated for completion by December 2029.
B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber Upgrades
In a separate $16 million contract running through June 3, 2029, Raytheon has been tapped to perform specialized maintenance on B-2 Spirit bombers. Based in El Segundo, California, the company will handle diagnostic and testing procedures to ensure the fleet’s systems remain fully operational.
The B-2 Spirit Advantage
Manufactured by Northrop Grumman, the B-2 is a cornerstone of American air power, renowned for its ability to deliver heavy payloads while maintaining a low profile. The aircraft is designed with advanced stealth technology, featuring reduced acoustic, electromagnetic, visual, and radar signatures that make it incredibly difficult to track. While the U.S. Air Force notes that many specifics regarding its low-observability remain classified, its long-range stealth capabilities continue to be a vital asset.
