3 shot in southwest Birmingham: 15-year-old boy, woman injured in shootout

A violent shootout erupted in a southwest Birmingham neighborhood on Thursday night, leaving three people injured, including a 15-year-old boy currently in critical condition. Authorities from the Birmingham Police Department and local fire crews were alerted to the scene on the 3200 block of Aspen Avenue Southwest at approximately 7:50 p.m.
Incident Response
Officers were initially dispatched to the area near Wiggins Park following a flood of 911 calls reporting a barrage of gunfire. While early reports from officials suggested as many as six victims, Officer De’Rell Freeman confirmed that responding units arrived to find two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds at the location.
Victims and Investigation
Among those injured were the 15-year-old boy, who sustained critical wounds, and a woman who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A third individual later arrived at a local hospital via private vehicle; according to Freeman, that person is considered a possible suspect in the shooting.
Although initial reports indicated a higher number of casualties, Freeman confirmed that all three wounded individuals are now expected to survive.
