While it's still early, Auburn could be a school to watch for this 2028 five-star prospect

5-star 2028 recruit recaps Big Cat Weekend visit to Auburn

Casey Barner may only be a rising junior, but the Georgia native is already one of the most sought-after prospects in the country. As he navigates the early stages of his high-profile recruitment, the five-star defensive back is becoming a familiar face on the Plains.

A Different Kind of Visit

Barner was one of 30 recruits to experience Big Cat Weekend this past Saturday. Unlike the typical high-pressure recruiting atmosphere, the event offered a relaxed itinerary featuring a scavenger hunt, a home run derby, and a pool party.

The scavenger hunt proved to be a major highlight for the talented defensive back. Although rival groups contested the outcome, Barner stood firm on the results. "They tried to say we cheated," Barner joked, "but we brought it home."

Reflecting on the unique event, Barner noted, "It was definitely different because I’ve never been to an event like this. I enjoyed myself today."

Building Relationships on the Plains

A key factor in Auburn's early momentum with Barner is his connection with safeties coach Tim Banks. Since joining the Auburn staff from Tennessee this offseason, Banks has been the point man in the recruitment of the elite defensive back.

"He’s a great guy," Barner said of Banks. "He’s been in the game for a very long time, so he knows what he’s talking about."

This trip marked Barner's third visit to Auburn, a testament to the persistent interest the Tigers have shown in the McEachern High School star. While he holds 39 offers according to 247Sports, Auburn has positioned itself as an early contender.

As he heads into his junior campaign, the industry standard 247Sports composite rankings list Barner as the No. 10 overall player and the top-rated safety in the 2028 class. While the road ahead is long, 205focus.com notes that Auburn remains a constant and significant presence in the recruitment of this five-star talent.
