Alabama-based chicken franchise to open another location

Wetumpka is about to get a taste of an Alabama original. Guthrie’s is officially expanding its footprint, opening its doors at 36 Line Drive—right across from the Wetumpka Sports Complex—this Tuesday.

A Growing Alabama Staple

This new restaurant marks the 35th Guthrie’s location within the state and the very first to call Wetumpka home. Franchise owners Matt Edwards and Chip Cleveland, who also operate the Prattville site, are at the helm of this latest expansion.

Opening Day Deals

The restaurant is ready for business, with operating hours set for 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday through Saturday. To celebrate the grand opening, the first 100 guests to purchase a Guthrie’s Original Box Combo will be treated to free Guthrie’s for a year—specifically, one box combo every month for 12 months. As an added bonus, 10 lucky winners from that initial group will be selected to receive free Guthrie’s every week for a full year. The new location will provide jobs for 35 local residents.

A Legacy of Flavor

Guthrie’s Franchising CEO Tom Carr highlighted the significance of the move, noting that as an Alabama-founded brand, continuing to grow within the home state is an exciting milestone. Guests can expect the menu staples that made the franchise famous, including hand-breaded chicken fingers, hand-chopped coleslaw, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, and that iconic signature dipping sauce.

The company continues to expand rapidly, having also opened a Hoover location this past March. The brand now boasts more than 70 locations spanning 13 states.

The roots of the franchise run deep. The late Hal Guthrie Sr. launched the company in 1965 as a drive-in serving burgers and barbecue in the Winston County town of Haleyville. By 1978, he introduced the crispy fried chicken fingers and signature sauce that cemented the brand's place in culinary history.
