Auburn basketball 2026 recruiting: Steven Pearl on Caleb Williams signing and summer travel

After relying heavily on the transfer portal to reshape the roster over the past two seasons, Auburn basketball is making a concerted effort to deepen its high school pipeline. With only four prep recruits signed during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 cycles, the coaching staff has been hitting the road hard to build fresh connections with the next generation of Tigers.

Re-establishing the Prep Pipeline

Head coach Steven Pearl emphasized the importance of this recruiting mission during the Pearl Family Foundation golf event on Monday. The staff spent the recent weekend scouting talent in Memphis, the Chicago area, Texas, and even overseas.

"We were all over the world recruiting and getting guys on international prospects but also high school prospects," Pearl noted. "We’ll still continue to push the high school stuff and be able to bring in a couple of guys each year that we think can contribute right away."

Meet Caleb Williams

The lone high school addition for the 2026 class is Caleb Williams, a 6-foot-6 wing out of Tampa, Florida. The 3-star prospect—who arrived as the No. 119 overall player and the 36th-best small forward per Rivals—is already proving to be a high-effort recruit.

Pearl expressed high praise for the freshman's work ethic, noting that Williams is already requesting his summer academic and workout schedules to prepare for his transition to college ball. "For a young person to be that detail-oriented, I love that," Pearl said. "It’s something that gets me really excited. He knows coming in that it’s going to be an uphill battle, but what I love about Caleb is that he’s not scared of that."

Expectations for the Summer

While Williams is expected to compete for minutes immediately, Pearl identified specific areas for growth, specifically defensive lateral quickness and vertical explosiveness. However, his elite shooting ability makes him a versatile threat who can play multiple positions.

"He hasn’t been talked about enough," Pearl added. "He’s a guy that is going to be able to come in and really push the competition we have at those positions."

Auburn is slated to kick off preparations for the 2026-27 season in June, followed by a highly anticipated foreign tour in Greece this August.
