Death of 2-year-old girl in east Alabama under investigation

Authorities have launched an investigation following the tragic passing of a 2-year-old girl in east Alabama on Friday.
Emergency Response in Chambers County
Chambers County sheriff’s deputies and Lanett EMS units were dispatched to a residence on County Road 187 in the Cusseta area at 9 a.m. following reports that a toddler was not breathing. Deputies on the scene immediately initiated life-saving measures until paramedics could arrive to take over care.
Investigation Underway
The young child was transported to East Alabama Medical Center, where she was unfortunately pronounced dead. Officials from the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the girl’s body has been transferred to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to undergo an autopsy.
The death is currently being handled by the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, the Fifth Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, and the Chambers County Coroner’s Office.
