Trump makes last minute pitch for ‘proud veteran’ Barry Moore in Alabama US Senate race
Trump also praised John Wahl, who is running for lieutenant governor, and Tommy Tuberville, who is running for governor.
With the Alabama U.S. Senate Republican runoff election rapidly approaching, Donald Trump stepped in to provide a significant boost to U.S. Rep. Barry Moore. During a telerally held on Thursday, the former president made a last-minute pitch to voters, labeling Moore a proud veteran and a dedicated fighter for the state.
A Heated Runoff Race
Moore currently finds himself in the final stretch of a high-stakes battle for the GOP nomination against his opponent, Jared Hudson. While both candidates have military backgrounds, the campaign has turned contentious. Hudson has publicly challenged Moore's service record, claiming in a June 9 email that Moore has continued to mislead the electorate. In response, Moore has dismissed the accusations as a garbage swamp tactic, arguing that the attacks unfairly malign members of the National Guard. To combat the negative messaging, Moore has filed a federal complaint with the Federal Election Commission against several social media accounts that questioned his record regarding his military service.
Trump's Endorsements and Policy Focus
Beyond his support for Moore, Trump used the telerally to issue full endorsements for John Wahl, who is seeking the lieutenant governor seat, and Tommy Tuberville, who is running for governor. During his seven-minute address, Trump highlighted Moore’s alignment with his own legislative goals, emphasizing that Moore would focus on securing the border, curbing government spending, and promoting energy independence as a senator.
The former president also addressed international affairs during the call, claiming a breakthrough deal with Iran to prevent the development of nuclear weapons. However, reports of such a deal remain unconfirmed as of Thursday evening.
Final Stretch Before the Vote
Moore expressed his gratitude for the endorsement, telling listeners he stands ready to hit the ground running to make the America First agenda a reality. With the runoff election set for June 16, the victor will move on to face either Dakarai Larriett or Everett Wess in the general election.
