A tragic accident in Shelby County has claimed the life of a 16-year-old Alabaster resident and left three others hospitalized following a weekend collision.

Details of the Crash

According to reports from 205focus.com, the incident occurred at 2:10 p.m. on Sunday along Alabama 119, situated approximately two miles south of Hoover. Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans identified the victim as 16-year-old James Clowdus.

Investigation Findings

Senior Trooper Gregory Corble stated that the crash involved a Honda Civic driven by Clowdus and a Lexus RX Wagon operated by 64-year-old Michael C. Rice of Birmingham. Authorities report that the initial collision caused the Civic to exit the roadway, where it subsequently struck a fence and a greenhouse.

Investigators noted that Clowdus was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck and was ejected from the vehicle.

Those Involved

In addition to the fatality, three other individuals sustained injuries in the crash:

  • A 14-year-old passenger from the Honda Civic was transported to an undisclosed hospital.
  • Michael C. Rice and his passenger, 67-year-old Dawn M. Rice of Montevallo, were both taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.
