Detours set for Perimeter Road near new Mobile airport international terminal

Drivers navigating the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley need to prepare for upcoming changes. A key access road is slated for closure to accommodate the construction of a new roundabout serving the city's upcoming international airport terminal.

Construction Schedule and Impact

According to the Mobile Airport Authority, Perimeter Road will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, June 15. The project is expected to continue through Friday, Oct. 23.

While the closure is in effect, access will remain available via alternate routes. To the south, motorists can utilize Gatotkoco Drive and Dauphin Island Parkway, while the northern access point remains available via Michigan Avenue. Dedicated detour paths will be established specifically for construction traffic heading to the new international terminal and active operations in the area.

Infrastructure Upgrades for 2027

This project represents the first of two roundabouts planned for the area. As reported by 205focus.com, these developments are part of the broader effort to prepare for the new terminal's arrival, which is anticipated to open in 2027. Officials are working to ensure both planned roundabouts are operational before the grand opening. The second roundabout is slated for the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Broad Street, located just south of Interstate 10.
