Rising Postage Costs
U.S. postage stamps are officially joining the list of everyday items that will soon see a price hike. Starting July 12, the cost of a First Class Forever Stamp will climb from 78 cents to 82 cents.
This adjustment follows a previous increase in July 2025, when stamp prices rose from 72 cents to 78 cents. Across the board, these new changes are expected to increase mailing service prices by approximately 4.8%.
Why the change?
In a statement regarding the shift, the USPS cited a severe financial crisis and rising operational costs. The service emphasized that it relies on the sale of postage and products to fund its operations, as it generally does not receive tax dollars. The agency stated, “The Postal Service is using all available tools, including available regulatory pricing authority, to ensure we can continue to fulfill our universal service obligation and serve the American public.”
Despite the incoming increase, the Postal Service maintained that its mailing prices remain among the most affordable options in the world.
