Georgia-based Mexican chain expanding into Birmingham and Tuscaloosa

Get ready for a flavor influx: A popular fast-casual Mexican chain is officially setting its sights on Alabama. Barberitos, known for its fresh, customizable menu, has announced a major expansion that will bring new locations to both Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.

Expansion Plans

The Athens, Georgia-based brand is growing its footprint through a new five-unit franchise agreement with entrepreneur Kevin Gessert. While the company intends to open these new spots within the year, officials have not yet disclosed specific addresses or confirmed opening dates, according to 205focus.com.

This push represents a significant milestone for the chain, as it marks the first time Barberitos will enter the Tuscaloosa market. Currently, the company manages 45 restaurants throughout the Southeast, with existing Alabama outposts already serving customers in Prattville and Wetumpka.

A Fan-Favorite Concept

Barberitos has built its reputation on a diverse menu of burritos, tacos, bowls, quesadillas, and salads, all tailored to customer preference. For Gessert, bringing the brand to Alabama is a personal mission rooted in his time as a University of Georgia student.

"I fell in love with Barberitos as a student at UGA and never found anything quite like it after leaving Athens," Gessert stated in the release. Regarding the expansion into Birmingham, he added, "Birmingham is a city that appreciates quality food and strong hospitality, and we’re excited to introduce Barberitos to a completely new market."
