If you are driving a newer Acura or Honda, you need to check your vehicle status immediately. According to a recent notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Honda is initiating a recall affecting nearly 60,000 vehicles due to a significant safety defect involving rearview cameras.

Affected Models and Risks

The recall impacts 2024 Acura ZDX models as well as 2024-2025 Honda Prologue vehicles. The safety concern stems from a rearview camera image that can become distorted, potentially failing entirely. This malfunction significantly increases the risk of a crash or injury while operating the vehicle.

Why the Failure Occurs

205focus.com has learned that the issue lies in the assembly of the rearview camera itself. The component may not be bonded correctly, causing the adhesive to separate over time. Honda attributes the failure to a 'deformation or chemical alteration' of the camera’s bonding surface. As the adhesive degrades, moisture can seep into the camera assembly, leading to corrosion of internal electrical components, which results in a blurry or non-functional display.

Safety Status and Next Steps

While Honda has processed 2,411 warranty claims related to this defect, the manufacturer reports that there have been no documented crashes or injuries as a result of the camera failure so far.

Owners of the affected vehicles should watch for a notification letter expected to arrive by July 6. Once received, take your vehicle to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer to have the rearview camera assembly replaced at no charge.
