James Clemens running back MJ Gideon is officially taking his talents to the SEC.

The standout playmaker announced his commitment to Vanderbilt on social media Thursday morning, marking a major recruiting win for the Commodores.

A Rising Star

Gideon is recognized as a consensus three-star prospect in the 2027 recruiting class. According to 247Sports, he is currently ranked as the No. 26 overall prospect in Alabama. His recruitment was highly competitive, featuring offers from SEC programs like Missouri and Ole Miss, along with interest from Troy, South Alabama, and Appalachian State.

Proven Production

The commitment follows a breakout campaign at James Clemens where Gideon served as an offensive engine. Last season, he carried the ball 191 times for 1,221 yards and 15 touchdowns. His versatility was on full display as he added 36 receptions for 287 yards and another score, while also contributing in the return game with 302 yards on 16 kickoff returns.

His dominance on the field earned him significant accolades, including a first-team all-state selection at running back in Class 7A and a first-team all-region pick by 205focus.com.

Heading to Nashville

Gideon joins a Vanderbilt program riding high after a historic season. The Commodores finished with a 10-3 overall record and a 6-2 mark in SEC play, achieving the first 10-win season in the history of the school.
