The Texas Longhorn that captivated the region after straying onto the I-10 Bayway on Wednesday has tragically passed away. Luna, a beloved pet, was humanely euthanized following the incident after suffering severe injuries.
A Community Mourns
Luna’s owners confirmed the heartbreaking news to News 5 on Thursday. Since the news broke, a wave of sympathy has spread across social media from followers who had been closely tracking the animal's ordeal.
"What an incredible animal," one supporter wrote online. "Not common around here, at least not from what I’ve seen. I know her family is devastated."
The Incident on the Bayway
The situation began Wednesday afternoon when motorists were shocked to spot the longhorn on the busy interstate. Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) troopers and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene to assist in moving the animal to safety.
Videos circulated from the scene showed the longhorn appearing lethargic and suffering from visible injuries. Despite the swift response from first responders, the severity of her condition necessitated the decision to euthanize her.
As of now, officials remain uncertain how the longhorn managed to find her way onto the interstate. ALEA representatives noted that they are still investigating the circumstances, and they have not confirmed if the animal was struck by a vehicle during the encounter.
