Louisiana sports-themed restaurant co-owned by Drew Brees has closed an Alabama location
It appears that seven other locations in the state remain in operation, with another listed as "coming soon."
The local landscape for Cajun-themed dining is changing as Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux, the restaurant chain co-owned by NFL icon Drew Brees, has officially shuttered its location in Mobile.
A Quiet Exit in Mobile
Patrons arriving at 3673 Airport Boulevard were met with a notice stating that the restaurant ceased operations indefinitely effective June 1. The message expressed gratitude for the community's years of loyalty and encouraged guests to utilize their existing gift cards at other chain locations.
The Mobile site first opened its doors in the summer of 2019. At the time of its debut, Jason Gisclair, president of the franchise group DBMC Restaurants, noted the location had staffed an "All-American team of 125" employees. Attempts to reach both the Louisiana-based franchise group and the chain’s public relations representation for further comment on the closure have not yet been successful.
A Volatile Portfolio
While the specific reasoning behind the Mobile closure remains unconfirmed, the chain has navigated a turbulent period of restructuring since 2023. Recent exits include storefronts in Pensacola, Opelika, Las Vegas, and a reported closure in Slidell, Louisiana.
Despite these contractions, the brand has continued to push forward in other regions. In May 2025, the company celebrated an opening in Town Madison, marking its seventh location in Alabama. By July 2025, the company had reached a milestone of 21 restaurants in its home state, with CEO Chris Porcelli noting that the brand had grown to "nearly 100 restaurants" across its footprint.
What Remains in Alabama
The Mobile site was initially part of a grand expansion strategy revealed in 2017, which aimed to establish a significant presence in hubs like Huntsville, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, and Birmingham. According to the official Walk-On’s website, the state still hosts seven active locations spanning Birmingham, Hoover, Montgomery, Trussville, Tuscaloosa, and two in Madison.
A planned location in Dothan continues to hover in limbo. While listed as "coming soon" on the corporate site, the project has faced multi-year delays. The store's social media presence has remained largely dormant since a brief update regarding a team member engagement day back in March.
