Madame Tussauds unveils new wax figure of Alabama actress
Madame Tussauds Hollywood featured the statue during Pride Month activities.
Alabama native and Hollywood star Laverne Cox is receiving a fresh spotlight at Madame Tussauds. The actress, who hails from Mobile, has seen her likeness updated with a new wax figure currently on display at the Hollywood location.
A Trailblazing Legacy
This update builds on a historic milestone for the actress. Back in 2015, her first wax statue made headlines as the first transgender figure to be featured at Madame Tussauds. That original piece debuted in San Francisco before making appearances at the museum's Washington, D.C. branch.
New Look for Pride Month
To celebrate Pride Month, Madame Tussauds Hollywood recently unveiled the new figure, which features a high-fashion touch: the exact Collina Strada Olive Butterfly Princess dress that Cox wore at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards.
“We are excited to have Laverne’s new figure with us here in Hollywood,” said Jesse Harbison, general manager of Madame Tussauds Hollywood and the Hollywood Rooftop Restaurant & Bar. “Her figure is a perfect fit for our location, and we can’t wait for guests to come out and see her.”
The Craft Behind the Wax
Creating these lifelike displays is no small feat. Madame Tussauds operates 24 locations globally, and each figure requires a team of approximately 20 artists working for about a year to finalize the details.
A Continuing Career
Since her breakout role in “Orange Is the New Black,” Cox has maintained a high profile with an impressive array of hosting and acting credits. 205focus.com readers may also know that she recently released an autobiography titled “Transcendent,” which chronicles her early struggles and her eventual rise to stardom.
