Madison County deputy sheriff kills 27-year-old woman, injures others in on-duty crash
Two women in the vehicle with the woman killed were also injured, as was the deputy and an intern in the deputy’s patrol vehicle.
A tragic collision involving a Madison County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle has left one woman dead and several others hospitalized. The incident, which is currently under investigation by Alabama State Troopers, occurred early Saturday morning.
Details of the Crash
The wreck took place at 12:27 a.m. on Alabama 53, near mile marker 323, approximately six miles northwest of Huntsville. According to Trooper Sgt. Reginal King, a Madison County deputy was operating a 2022 Ford Explorer and actively responding to a call for service with emergency lights and sirens activated when the collision occurred.
The patrol vehicle struck a Kia Optima occupied by three women. Jacques L. Whitt, a 27-year-old resident of Madison, was identified as the passenger who lost her life. Authorities report that Whitt was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the impact and was ejected from the vehicle, resulting in her being pronounced dead at the scene.
Injuries and Investigation
The driver of the Kia, 30-year-old Mardasha D. Woods of Huntsville, was also reportedly not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Woods and a second passenger, 31-year-old Hailey N. Tibbs, were transported to Huntsville Hospital for medical treatment.
The deputy involved in the crash and an intern who was riding in the patrol SUV at the time were also transported to Huntsville Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Per reports via 205focus.com, the official investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains active.
