Major mixed-use development with sports complex announced for I-65 interchange

A major new player is stepping into North Alabama’s booming industrial corridor. The city of Decatur and Limestone County have teamed up with North Carolina-based Synergy Sports to announce plans for The Crossroads of the Tennessee Valley, a massive mixed-use development anchored by a premiere sports complex.

A New Hub for Sports and Commerce

Slated for development on property currently owned by the Calvary Assembly of God near the Alabama 20 and Interstate 65-565 interchange, the project aims to serve as a magnet for athletic tourism. The facility is designed to feature multiple baseball and softball diamonds, along with dedicated fields for soccer, lacrosse, and flag football. An additional indoor facility is expected to help draw regional tournaments and teams to the area.

Beyond athletics, the project scope includes retail, hotel, and residential components. The location places it in a prime growth corridor, situated in close proximity to industry titans including Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, the Amazon Fulfillment Center, Polaris, and the $6 billion Eli Lilly pharmaceutical facility announced last December.

Strategic Location

The project will sit across the interstate exchange from Westmoore Landing, a high-profile development in Huntsville that is slated to bring approximately 3,000 new homes to the region.

Synergy Sports brings significant experience to the table; according to the firm’s website, they are currently involved in the development of a $90 million sports complex in Odessa, Texas, and a $60 million venue in Belleview, Illinois.

Local Support

City officials are optimistic about the project's potential impact. In a statement provided to 205focus.com, the city of Decatur noted that the development could strengthen sports tourism, bolster local businesses, and provide new opportunities for North Alabama families.

Decatur Mayor Kent Lawrence has voiced his support for the ongoing planning process, specifically commending the collaboration between the developers and Calvary Church. While officials acknowledge there is still plenty of work to be done, the city remains committed to doing everything in its power to see this project come to fruition for Decatur and the surrounding region.
