Mobile’s new international airport is ‘virtually’ open for business
Thanks to developments in the last few days, Microsoft Flight Simulator users can now fly an Airbus A220 into the Mobile airfield where they're built.

Mobile’s upcoming international airport terminal is still months away from its grand opening, but for virtual pilots, the wait is already over. Aviation enthusiasts can now climb into a cockpit and touch down at the new facility in Microsoft Flight Simulator, marking an impressive convergence of local industry and digital gaming.
Bringing the Airbus A220 to Life
The virtual experience is headlined by a new, highly anticipated version of the Airbus A220, which is famously assembled right here in Mobile. Developed by Synaptic Simulations in collaboration with London-based studio iniBuilds, this detailed add-on hit the Flight Simulator marketplace at the end of July for $64.99.
The simulation offers an authentic airline feel, boasting a custom Flight Management System, realistic engine simulation for the PW1500G, and a fully modeled cockpit and passenger cabin. It is designed to provide one of the most comprehensive regional airliner experiences available to date.
Touching Down at a Future Hub
To complete the experience, Polish developer Drzewiecki Design launched a specialized add-on titled “KBFM – Mobile International Airport.” Available online for $23.49, the scenery allows pilots to navigate the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley long before the general public gets the chance.
As noted by Msfsaddons.com, this release is unique because it features the terminal design scheduled to open in spring 2027. The Mobile Airport Authority is currently working to transition commercial traffic from the current Mobile Regional Airport to this new site, which will feature five contact gates, an elevated roadway, and a five-storey parking garage.
A Detailed Digital Landscape
The scenery doesn't just focus on the runways. Drzewiecki Design has included key landmarks that provide a realistic backdrop for any flight, including the Africatown Bridge, the RSA Tower, and the APM Terminals container terminal at the Port of Mobile. With a fully modeled interior for the new terminal included in the package, simmers are getting an early look at what real Alabama travelers can expect in about a year and a half.
While the virtual gates are open now, the real-world facility will eventually provide the final check to see if the developers truly captured the spirit of the project when it welcomes its first commercial passengers in 2027.
