Neighborhood lounge and grill planned in spot that housed popular Avondale bars
Previous tenants included Marble Ring, as well as Ferus on 41st, which closed earlier this year.
A fresh addition is coming to the Birmingham food and drink scene. A new bar and restaurant concept is officially in the works for the Avondale neighborhood.
A New Vibe in Avondale
The venue, dubbed Retro, is set to occupy the space at 430 41st St. S., Unit A. The Birmingham City Council officially granted the project its retail liquor license this past Tuesday, clearing a major hurdle for the upcoming establishment.
Owner Rex Cole introduced his vision for the business during a May 12 Birmingham City Council public safety committee meeting, describing the project as a neighborhood lounge and grill. When asked about the atmosphere, Cole kept it simple: “Everyone is welcome.”
Prior History and Next Steps
The address is well-known in the local nightlife circuit. Previous tenants at this location include Marble Ring, as well as Ferus on 41st, the latter of which shuttered its doors earlier this year.
As for safety and operations, Cole confirmed that the lounge will be equipped with cameras and security presence during nighttime hours. While excitement for the new spot is building, potential customers will have to wait a little longer to walk through the doors.
According to updates posted on social media, Cole isn't quite ready to announce an official opening date just yet. “We have a few more hurdles to clear,” he noted. 205focus.com will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
