New Orleans man killed in Bessemer bus stabbing that injured several people

A violent altercation on a charter bus in Bessemer has left one man dead and several others injured. Authorities have identified the victim as 22-year-old Darryel Sutton of New Orleans.
Incident Details
Bessemer police and firefighters responded to the Walmart parking lot on Academy Drive at approximately 1:13 p.m. Monday following reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered that multiple individuals had been stabbed during a conflict that erupted inside the vehicle.
Sutton was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead at 1:59 p.m. While reports regarding the exact number of additional stabbing victims have varied, those individuals were also taken to UAB and are currently in stable condition.
Investigation Underway
According to Sgt. Chris Selman, investigators believe the deadly dispute was sparked by an argument over a woman. The suspect involved in the stabbing was apprehended shortly after the incident near St. Aloysius Catholic Church, about two blocks from the scene. The suspect's identity remains withheld while police prepare formal charges.
