Peyton Manning’s son won’t start for his high school team. Here’s why

The next chapter of the Manning football legacy is officially underway. Marshall Manning, son of NFL legend Peyton Manning, is set to begin his high school career at Baylor School this upcoming season, but he will be starting his journey from the sidelines.

Stepping Into a Competitive Environment

Baylor School coach Erik Kimrey confirmed on the Villamarzos Voice podcast that the incoming freshman will serve as the backup quarterback. "Marshall Manning is our backup quarterback this year. He’ll be a freshman. So we’re excited about him," Kimrey stated.

Marshall, who previously lived in Denver before transferring to the Tennessee school last summer, is joining a powerhouse program. The Red Raiders are coming off an impressive 12-0 season that culminated in a state championship.

A Talented Supporting Cast

The starting role is held by rising senior and Ole Miss commit Keegan Croucher. According to 247Sports, Croucher is a highly touted four-star prospect and the No. 10 ranked quarterback in the nation. The offense also features five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, currently ranked as the No. 2 player at his position nationally.

While Marshall has already made waves on social media for his impressive arm talent and accuracy, he will use this season to develop behind an elite high school starter.

Learning from the Best

Of course, Marshall has access to perhaps the greatest mentor in football history. His father, Peyton Manning, is a Pro Football Hall of Famer who collected five NFL MVP awards and captured Super Bowl titles with both the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos. Before his legendary pro career, the elder Manning starred at the University of Tennessee and was selected first overall in the 1998 NFL Draft.

Though Marshall may not be leading the Red Raiders onto the field as a starter just yet, his development under the Baylor School coaching staff and his father's guidance points toward an incredibly bright future.
