Thousands of students have yet to register for Birmingham City Schools as district officials make a final push before classes begin Monday.

School starts Monday. Nearly 5,000 Birmingham City Schools students still need to register

With the 2026-27 school year kicking off this Monday, time is running out for families to complete the registration process. As of August 6, Birmingham City Schools reported that more than 4,800 students are still not registered for the upcoming term.

According to Birmingham City Schools Strategy and Communications Officer Fred Davenport, approximately 13,700 students have completed the process so far. While this figure shows progress, the district is making a final push to reach the 4,802 students who remain unregistered as the first bell approaches.

A Critical Deadline

In a recent statement, the district emphasized the urgency of the situation: “The first day of school is almost here, and we can’t wait to welcome our scholars back to class on Monday. Nearly 5,000 students still need to register, and every day counts.”

Officials note that finishing registration now is the best way to ensure a seamless start for students. Completing the process promptly helps the district manage classroom space, instructional materials, and supplies, while also sparing families from potential registration lines on the first day of school.

How to Register

Registration is available 24/7 and can be completed conveniently via any smartphone, tablet, or computer. This digital initiative follows a summer-long push to get students prepared, a significant improvement from July, when nearly 10,000 students were still unregistered, as previously reported earlier this summer.

To begin the registration process or to find detailed requirements for both new and returning students, families should visit the Birmingham City Schools registration page.
