Texas-style barbecue restaurant now open in Birmingham metro location
The business took "Food Truck of the Year” for two consecutive years from the Hueytown Chamber of Commerce.
The Birmingham metro area just got a major boost in its barbecue scene. Austin Whereabouts, a beloved Texas-style barbecue concept, has officially traded its mobile roots for a permanent brick-and-mortar home in McCalla.
From Food Truck to Brick-and-Mortar
Owner Johnny LaFoy officially opened the new storefront this month at 6530 Pocahontas Road. The business arrives in McCalla with a proven track record, having established its reputation while operating in Hueytown. During its time on the road, the team captured the coveted “Food Truck of the Year” honor from the Hueytown Chamber of Commerce for two consecutive years.
“Seeing a full restaurant and so many people excited about Central Texas BBQ in Birmingham means the world to us,” the restaurant shared in a recent social media post as reported by 205focus.com.
On the Menu
Fans of authentic Central Texas BBQ will find plenty to get excited about. The menu is headlined by smoked staples, including brisket, pulled pork, spareribs, beef ribs, turkey, chicken, and sausage. Diners looking for the full experience can order the Texas Trinity, a plate featuring brisket, spare ribs, and sausage.
The restaurant also features a standout starter: the Texas Twinkie. This treat consists of jalapeño peppers stuffed with a cream cheese and brisket blend, wrapped in bacon, smoked to perfection, and finished with a house glaze.
For those looking to round out their meal, the restaurant offers a variety of plates and sandwiches. If you have a sweet tooth, the menu features banana pudding as its signature dessert.
