Trader Joe’s customers could get over $100 each from this settlement, but time is running out to claim
The lawsuit centers on receipts that allegedly showed too much credit card information during a four-month period in 2019. Here's how to check if you're eligible and submit your claim.
Time is running out for Trader Joe’s shoppers to claim their share of a $7.4 million class action settlement. With the deadline just under two weeks away, 205focus.com is breaking down how you can see if you are eligible for a potential payout exceeding $100.
The Case Against Trader Joe’s
The legal action centers on accusations that the grocery chain violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act. According to the settlement website, federal law limits receipts to displaying no more than the last five digits of a customer's card number. However, the lawsuit alleges that for a four-month stretch in 2019, Trader Joe's printed both the first six and last four digits on customer receipts. While the company has agreed to the $7.4 million fund, they maintain that they are not at fault for any wrongdoing.
Who Qualifies and How to Claim
If you made a credit or debit card purchase at any Trader Joe’s location between March 5, 2019, and July 19, 2019, you could be eligible for compensation. While the estimated payout is $102.45, the final amount per person will be determined by the volume of timely, valid claims filed.
You must act by June 9 to secure your payment. Here is how you can submit your information:
- Online: Visit the official settlement website or call 1-888-444-7415.
- Without a Claim ID: Even if you did not receive a claim ID in the mail, you can still participate by providing the purchase date and the first six and last four digits of the card used.
- By Mail: You can submit a paper claim postmarked no later than June 9 to: Keim v. Trader Joe’s Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 301134, Los Angeles, CA 90030-1134.
