According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the accident occurred around 4:45 a.m. on I-65 in Baldwin County. McGill was driving a 2016 Hyundai Elantra when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, resulting in fatal injuries.
McGill was on her way to the University of Alabama at Birmingham for college orientation at the time of the crash. Her mother, Kristin Carroll, shared with Fox10 News that her daughter was brimming with excitement, having earned a full ride scholarship to the university.
"She had so many things that she wanted to do," Carroll said. "Her biggest goal was she wanted to be a journalism professor. She wanted to write. She just loved writing. She loved helping people."
A Legacy of Excellence
A recent graduate of Blount High School, McGill was a standout student who achieved top honors. Her leadership was evident across campus, serving as president of the academic team, president of the Future Business Leaders of America, and as a member of the National Honor Society.

"Rylie was a bright light whose warmth, intelligence, and determination touched everyone around her," the post stated. "She had a gift for making others feel seen, and her smile could light up any room she entered. She was more than our captain, she was our encourager and the heart of our team. She will forever be our captain and her light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew and loved her."
