Troy baseball camera gear worth $35k stolen before historic Omaha win
Troy discovered the missing gear Sunday before winning its first game in Omaha.
Troy’s incredible run in the Men’s College World Series hit a major speed bump this weekend.
A Costly Discovery in Omaha
On the same day Troy secured a massive 12-8 victory over Mississippi, the athletics department revealed that approximately $35,000 worth of camera equipment had been stolen from the team bus. According to a police report obtained by 205focus.com, the gear was taken while the bus was parked outside the team's downtown Omaha hotel. The theft was discovered Sunday morning when the team prepared to head to Charles Schwab Field.
Community Support Saves the Day
Despite the setback, the Trojans didn't miss a beat, thanks to an outpouring of support from the local community. School officials extended their gratitude to the NCAA, CWS Omaha, Creighton Athletics, and Omaha Athletics for loaning the necessary equipment to document the program's historic milestone.
"We can’t thank the NCAA, CWS Omaha, Creighton Athletics and Omaha Athletics enough for their selfless efforts in loaning us gear and granting us access to their content to help capture what was a historic day for Troy Baseball and Troy Athletics," the school stated to 205focus.com. "The City of Omaha has been nothing but gracious hosts this week, and we are thankful for the outpouring of support throughout our College World Series journey."
Looking Ahead
The Trojans are back on the diamond Tuesday at 1 p.m. CT for an elimination matchup. They will face West Virginia, the same team that handed Troy a 7-5 loss in the tournament opener last Friday.
