Texas-style barbecue restaurant now open in Birmingham metro location

The Birmingham metro area just got a major taste of the Lone Star State. Austin Whereabouts, the celebrated Texas-style barbecue concept, has officially transitioned from the road to a brand-new brick-and-mortar storefront in McCalla.

From Food Truck Favorites to Brick-and-Mortar

Owner Johnny LaFoy opened the new location this month at 6530 Pocahontas Road. The restaurant is a familiar name to those in the area, having first built its reputation as a premier food truck operating out of Hueytown. That early success earned them the prestigious 'Food Truck of the Year' honor from the Hueytown Chamber of Commerce for two consecutive years.

Reflecting on the successful transition, the team shared on social media: 'Seeing a full restaurant and so many people excited about Central Texas BBQ in Birmingham means the world to us.'

What's on the Menu

The menu brings authentic Central Texas flavors to McCalla. Fans can expect a variety of smoked meats including brisket, pulled pork, spareribs, beef ribs, turkey, chicken, and sausage. For those looking to sample the best of the pit, the Texas Trinity plate features a combination of brisket, spare ribs, and sausage.

If you are looking for a starter, the Texas Twinkie is a must-try. This signature item consists of jalapeño peppers stuffed with a cream cheese and brisket blend, then wrapped in bacon, smoked to perfection, and finished with a house glaze. To round out your meal, the restaurant offers banana pudding as its signature dessert.
