WBRC News 6 is bolstering its weather coverage this month with the addition of a new face to its broadcast team. Carlyn McCreary has been tapped to join the Gray Television station as a First Alert Meteorologist, a move that officially makes the station’s weather department the largest in Alabama with a total of seven meteorologists.
A Passion for Protection
McCreary arrives in Birmingham with a deeply personal perspective on severe weather. Having survived a house fire sparked by lightning and witnessing the destruction of her grandmother's home during a 2022 flood, she brings a heartfelt commitment to helping Central Alabama viewers navigate storm anxiety. Her professional philosophy centers on providing the dependable coverage that viewers rely on for safety.
Rising Talent
A native of Kentucky, McCreary refined her skills at the University of Oklahoma, where she earned her degree in meteorology and distinguished herself as an award-winning student reporter. WBRC 6 News Director Shannon Maze praised her arrival, noting that McCreary combines a robust forecasting background with a genuine passion for storytelling and service.
"Dependable weather coverage is the most important promise we make to our audience, and she is a great fit for the First Alert Weather Team," Maze said in a press release. "We look forward to our viewers getting to know her and seeing the impact she’ll have across Central Alabama."
